This week’s Play-Asia weekly special is Final Fantasy Anniversary Edition for the PSP Slim&Lite. The Japanese region-free version of this Square-Enix RPG game costs only $19,99 and is easy to play without any knowledge of Japanese. It’s a very cool and unique collector’s item as well since this is the limited edition Anniversary Edition. Originally released in 1987 in Japan, FINAL FANTASY was hailed by gamers and critics alike as one of the first RPGs to create a fantasy world that captured the imagination of players around the globe.
TVG has a nice review of SEGA Rally Revo for PSP Slim&Lite online. They gave the SEGA game for PSP a nice 8/10 for its nice graphics and good gameplay. SEGA Rally has a very strong and unique WiFi multiplayer mode as well. The game looks great for a PSP game with detailed environments and cars and one of the best control schemes made for a PSP racegame so far. The game SEGA Rally Revo for PSP is coming out in October in the US, you canpre-order it here.
The guy in the video above claims that the PSP UMD discs are built to self-destruct. Apparantely he has a lot of issues with UMD discs breaking out of their shell while we haven’t had any problems with Sony’s UMD discs yet. Actually, we have never heard anyone complain about the UMD casings. They’re pretty cheap though, only $4 shipment included but as long as you’re not having any problems with it, why replace the casing?
Today Ubisoft released its releaseschedule for the third quarter of this year with only one PSP game in the whole list. Beowulf, a game based on Paramount Picture’s and Shangri-La Entertainment’s Beowulf, the upcoming feature film from Academy Award-winning director Robert Zemeckis, will be released in November for the Sony PlayStation Portable Slim&Lite.
At the Tokyo Game Show in Japan developer Konami showed a lot of new footage of its two new Metal Gear Solid games and new images of Silent Hill: Origins forPSP Slim&Lite. The game wasn’t playable at the TGS, but they released a new trailer of the game to make it up with us.
The Tokyo Game Show is now officially over, but Irem Software was so kind to give us some more screenshots from R-Type Tactics for the PSP Slim&Lite. The game is developed by Irem and offers loads of traditional side-scrolling shooting-action with a fine turn-based hex-grid system with loads of cool boss battles and challenging levels.
October 5th the new music and rhythm game called Pump it Up Zero Portable will launch in Korea. The game is packed full with rhythm and action with over 111 songs including Pop, Banya and K-Pop tracks. You can play the game using wireless connection with AD-Hoc wireless Battle at Versus Station and at Store Station you can buy various steps, images, music videos and indicators with your game points.
Playing the game will be very straightforward:
• When a direction indicator reaches the sequence zone, the player has to press the applicable button
• When the direction indicator reaches the target zone, the gauge indicator goes up. Once the player pushes the button twice they can attain a perfect mark, which is called a “COMBO”
• Push the direction indicator button to the music
• When you make a mistake, the gauge indicator will go down and eventually the game will be over.
We don’t have an American releasedate yet, but the good news is that the Korean version of the game is playable in English. It’s region free too so you don’t need to worry about any limitations when importing this awesome title.
There’s no doubt that the new Sony PSP Slim&Lite will be the most wanted gift this Christmas. Sales in the UK weren’t good, but thanks to the new PSP-2000 sales had a boost of 17,000 units in its first week. The PSP Slim&Lite launched in the UK on September 14th and according to a Sony rep the new system sold four times what the old phatty PSP did in the previous week. So far they are satisfied with what the PSP is achieving on the UK market
With loads of cool new games coming out this fall the PSP Slim and Lite will be the big hit this Christmas!
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is already available in Japan, and it’s selling very good too. These are some of the first Final Fantasy VII screenshots in English, but they aren’t showing us any stuff we didn’t knew before. The game is playable at the Tokyo Game Show in Japan while Japanese gamers are still running to their gameshops to get the game! At this moment we don’t have any Western releasedata for the game.
