David Perry claiming UMD is a waste of time, investment and money

The founder of Shiny and the owner of GameConsultants.com, David Perry, says that Sony should be bringing out a PSP 3.0 and start all over again. If he was in charge he would be reducing manufacturing costs by taking out all the drives and moters that they have in the PlayStation Portable Slim and Lite handheld. According to him this would make the system slimmer still and drive developers to make new games for our beloved gamesystem.
He would build a iTunes-like service that would allow PSP users to register their PSP and download games and other content. Too bad gameretailers wouldn’t be to happy with a decision like this:
The truth is, the stores will not carry PSPs unless they feel they are going to get a piece of the action on the back end. And Sony has not come up with an innovative business model that can support that concept.
We would certainly like to see download hotspots at gameretailers and other important spots. The Nintendo DS has it and it works pretty well, Sony could make a nice service of it!

I was thinking, if developers or retailers do not support downloadable content, they could put their content on read-only StickDUOs and sell those
Yeah that would be a great idea too Anthony! They need to use their creativity.
